Season 5, Episode 1 of “Kunnen we het maken?”. Welcome to the first episode of season 5. In this podcast we are discussing the wonders of the construction world, skyscrapers. The topic of integrated design is something we have discussed in a couple of episodes. However, never this special type of integrated design. Integrated design for which knowledge is required about a lot of topics: advanced concrete and steel design, three-dimensional computational design, super complex wind calculations, geotechnical calculations, tuned mass dampeners, construction management, and a deep understanding of the design-to-construction process. We are going to discover new heights as we climb into a world in which you cannot just rely on the rules of thumb, and where a simple 2D structural scheme of your building is not enough: today we are going to learn all about slender and supertall skyscrapers with our expert guest of today, Fatih Yalniz from the WSP office in New York City. With Fatih we will talk about the countless skyscrapers that he and his team have worked on, not only in New York City but throughout the entire world. Do you want to know what goes into designing skyscrapers and what structural engineers from WSP are doing in terms of research for skyscrapers? You can listen to it all in this first episode of season 5 of “Kunnen we het maken?" ⚠️ Disclaimer: Due to unforeseen circumstances, Mees' microphone may sound a bit off.
